When I joined Globe back in September 2025, I wanted to get involved in church life as fast as I could. So when one Sunday afternoon, I heard about Globe Equip I signed up straight away. Equip is a series of modules on different areas of Christian life and theology that run all year round. The first module I signed up for was Foundations which covers the key doctrines of Christianity. Working in a church before coming to London sparked my interest for this in-depth study of Bible and doctrine, so this seemed like a great opportunity.
On our first week of Equip Foundations, after a meal and warm conversations, we sat down to discuss the doctrine of the Word of God. Together we worked through the nature of God’s Word, how it is inspired (God’s Word through human authors), inerrant (contains nothing contrary to fact) and sufficient (everything we need, and completed by Christ). We opened the Bible together, and found these answers for ourselves.
In the weeks after, we encountered the Trinity. We looked at the Creeds – and the heresies before our time – and thought about why we use terms such as ‘persons’ or ‘natures’. But my favourite week was week 3 – which was all about Christ, the second Person of the Trinity. He is fully God (who was with God and is God) and fully man (who became flesh and was made like us). The whole of Scripture is about him (John 20:9, 1 Corinthians 15:4, Luke 24:25-27, John 5:39-40, Acts 2:25-35 and many more).
Space for questions
What I really appreciated during Equip was that there was always room to ask questions: no question was too simple or too complicated. Did God die on the cross? Why does Jesus pray to God? To go deeper… Can the human ‘will’ pray to the divine ‘will’? Is that possible whilst maintaining “two natures, without confusion”? Often a couple of us would stay behind after 9pm to keep talking and discussing these big questions.
Getting Practical
Another good thing was that it was very practical. We got to see what these truths meant for our lives. While our minds were stretched, ultimately Foundations is all about loving Christ more. One example comes to mind – as Jesus ascended, he sat down at the right hand of God to intercede on our behalf. We see an image of this in Exodus 17. Moses stood on the top of a hill with the staff of God in his hands. His two hands were held up by Aaron and Hur as they grew tired; “As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.” (Exodus 17:11). At the end of Luke, Jesus ascended with his hands raised in blessing. As we fight at the bottom of the mountain – Jesus is in heaven with his hands raised in prayer for us. Having this level of biblical depth is so helpful to ground the truth of the gospel as we face the changes and challenges of everyday life.
For ordinary people
These Equip sessions are for ordinary church people – whether you’ve been a Christian for a little or a long time. It’s totally free, and you’ll be fed with teaching that’s as excellent as the food provided. I’ve come back for more of equip having just finished the Equip sessions on Prayer, and looking forward to joining the Bible Handling sessions next term.
Why don’t you try out the next one?
Check out the weekly email throughout the year to sign up to Globe Equip.
