The Corinthians want to pursue their rights and freedom. ‘I have the right to do anything’ is their great slogan of Corinth. But they've got the wrong idea of freedom; it's all self-focussed. Paul is going to challenge this ego-driven idea of freedom; he wants to show a better freedom, a freedom that isn't about themselves but instead the freedom is to love others. We're not supposed to be fighting our corner and seeking to make sure we get what we want. Rather, we are to imitate Christ.
