How was your quiet time this morning?

How was your quiet time this morning?

'Read your Bible, pray every day.' Most of us know that's easier said than done! In this blog, Kimberly shares a few of her thoughts and suggests a way forward.

I love reading the Bible, but I’m not always faithful at prioritising my daily reading. Some days it feels like a joy, and other times it feels like I’m ticking a box. Maybe you can relate?

We may know we need to be reading the Bible so that we grow in our understanding and love for God. We may know that all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16, 17. We may know that reading and memorising God’s Word provides a lamp for my feet, and a light on my path. Psalm 119:105.

So what stands in the way of us reading God’s Word and making it a priority? Maybe a better question, at least for me, is what doesn’t stand in my way? I very easily get distracted, busy, and (I hate to admit it) forget to read some days.

As I approached 2021 I prayed about my desire to be fully committed to daily Bible reading. I wondered if, like me, others would like accountability and encouragement to read God’s Word daily, so I reached out to people on the Facebook Globe Community page and a WhatsApp group was born. We have 23 “Globies” on the group and it’s a place where you can share what you’re reading, ask a question, admit that some things you read are hard/confusing, share an encouragement from God’s Word, get support from a reading buddy, or just read the messages that occasionally come through.

If you’re discouraged in your Bible reading because you find it a challenge or a chore, maybe you’d like to join the group? We can help with recommendations on what/how to read, different plans for reading the Bible, and the many options for reading God’s Word like apps, videos, listening to the Bible, or reading your Bible.

It’s not about crossing off a “to-do”, reporting in on your reading, or rushing through it just to say you’ve done it. It’s about slowing down, savouring, and sitting at Jesus’ feet to learn from Him.

If you’d like more information on joining the WhatsApp group, please email info@globe.church and they’ll be happy to send you the link.

Let’s dig in to God’s Word together!
